Wheelchair football team brings awareness to adaptive sports

Los Angeles-Wheelchair football is not a gentle sport! These competitive athletes play soccer fix games with first down, play, blitz and touchdown.

Manager and co-founder Angel City Sports“It’s fierce. It’s hitting, pitching, and catching. There are many of the same principles as healthy athletes and the NFL, and it’s happening here in the USAWFL,” said Michael Galafora.

Powerchair Football is one of many programs organized by Angel City Sports to create opportunities for disabled people to work. Any sport that can be adapted to a person with a disability is considered an adaptive sport.

“We use whatever abilities we have,” said player Alvin Malavé.

The ultimate goal of these athletes is to raise awareness of the adaptive sports community and encourage more adolescents and adults with disabilities to participate in athlete programming.

“These are real athletes and what they can do with these chairs is great,” said Zack Kinkeed, senior manager of the Rams Community Affairs.

In the 2020 NFL Draft Move UnitedAn affiliate of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, has received grants from the NFL and the Bobwood Rough Foundation to launch the official English Football League. NS Los Angeles Rams Later, we were able to partner with the Angel City Sports Wheelchair Football Team to sponsor the introduction into the league. Thanks to this sponsorship, the team recently received the official title of the LA Rams Wheelchair Football Team, along with some new Rams Gear.

The new helmet is an example of LA Rams support for the team with the Rams logo and decals. “It rarely happens in wheelchair sports, so I understand what they are doing for us and I am really grateful,” said Bart Sargado.

The team is certainly working on getting these stripes on the helmet and players are looking forward to taking them to the tournament. “People will see us wearing Rams helmets and Rams jerseys and will know we are genuine,” Sargado said.
