Richard F. McCarthy, Jr.
Fort Myers, FL – Richard F. McCarthy, Jr., of Fort Myers, FL, and formerly of Lansdale, PA, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, FL, surrounded by his children. He was 89.
He was the loving husband of 46 years to the late Margaret J. (Delaney) McCarthy until her passing on June 17, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Mary C. Snyder McCarthy, on November 29, 2012.
Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Richard F. Sr. and Catherine (Connolly) McCarthy. A 1949 graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, Bronx, NY, he attained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Fordham University, Bronx, NY, in 1954.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1949 to 1968, becoming a First Lieutenant – Artillery, and he served in the Korean War. He became a Certified Public Accountant and worked initially in public accounting. He then went on to work for the Sperry-Rand Corporation, followed by Unisys. His fluency in Spanish and Portuguese enabled him to work on many assignments throughout Mexico and South America. He retired in 1994.
A devout Catholic, he was an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA, and most recently Saint Cecilia in Fort Myers, FL.
Richard enjoyed sports throughout his life. An avid and competitive tennis player, he won 20 medals in the Pennsylvania, Bucks, and Montgomery County Senior Games, in both tennis and basketball, where he participated each year between 2002 and 2008. He coached Little League in the Deep Run Valley Sports Association. He also enjoyed dancing, sailing, swimming, fishing, travel, languages, reading, religion, and genealogy. Dedicated time watching his children and grandchildren play sports, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by three children, Michael G. McCarthy and his wife Mary Ann, of Doylestown, PA, Kevin G. McCarthy, of Manhattan, NY, and Catharine M. Albertson and her husband Edward, of Bethlehem, PA; five grandchildren, Erin, Carly and Eddy Albertson, Michael and Matthew McCarthy; a brother, Vincent McCarthy and his wife Patricia, of Nashua, NH; and his close companion, Dee Dee Rodriguez, of Naples, FL. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joseph G. McCarthy, in 1980, and cherished sister, Rita Meehan.
Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 10, 2021, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, both at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad Street, Hilltown, PA. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Hilltown.
