City of West Palm Beach Seeks Community Input for Redevelopment of Old Banyan Street Garage

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The City of West Palm Beach is pleased to announce its redevelopment study for the Banyan Street Garage at 200 Banyan Boulevard in West Palm Beach. Recognizing the community’s growing needs, the City aims to transform the garage into a versatile and dynamic space that caters to the evolving demands of the Central Business District.

Positioned at the heart of the vibrant downtown area, the Banyan Street Garage currently boasts the highest utilization rate within the City. The escalating growth of businesses, residential developments, and tourism in the area has contributed to an unprecedented surge in parking demands. In response, the City of West Palm Beach is exploring opportunities to reimagine the garage and unlock its potential for additional uses that align with the community’s needs.

The redeveloped garage has the potential to offer a range of possibilities, including retail spaces, residential units, hotel accommodations, office facilities, and other essential services determined to be priority needs by the community. By incorporating multiple uses into the redesigned space, the City aims to create a vibrant, inclusive environment that enhances the urban fabric and meets the diverse requirements of West Palm Beach residents and visitors.

“I am pleased to invite the community to participate in the Virtual Visioning Workshop and Community Survey for the redevelopment of the Banyan Street Garage. This project presents a unique opportunity for us to transform a vital space in our Central Business District and create a dynamic hub that meets the growing needs of our community. We value the input and ideas of our residents and stakeholders, and together, we can shape a future for a New Banyan Street Garage that truly reflects our shared vision and enhances the vibrancy of West Palm Beach” said Mayor Keith A. James.

To ensure that the community’s voice is heard during the redevelopment study, the City of West Palm Beach invites all stakeholders to participate in a Virtual Visioning Workshop.  This interactive workshop will provide an opportunity for individuals and organizations to express their visions and aspirations for a New Banyan Street Garage.

Details of the Virtual Visioning Workshop:

Date: Tuesday, May 23, 2023
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Online via Zoom (access details will be provided upon registration)

During the workshop, attendees will have the chance to engage in meaningful discussions, share their ideas, and contribute to shaping the future of the Old Banyan Street Garage. The City of West Palm Beach values the input and perspectives of its community members and encourages active participation in this transformative initiative.

Residents and stakeholders who are unable to attend the Virtual Visioning Workshop, are encouraged to complete the online survey by Tuesday, May 30, 2023, to ensure their input is included.
