West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (DATE) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Approved a resolution condemning the unprovoked attach by Hamas against Israel and its citizens, supporting its right to defend itself from indiscriminate violence and terrorism, and supporting the right of the State of Israel to exist as a sovereign, independent nation.

CITY ATTORNEY –  Approved a resolution for a conditional settlement agreement with Carmen Threet, as personal representative of the estate of Carl Threet in the matter of Carl Threet v. the City of West Palm Beach for an accident the occurred om September 28, 2020; approved a resolution for a conditional settlement in the matter of Richard Halsey v. the City of West Palm Beach for an injury sustained during his employment with the City on or about February 14, 2011; approved a resolution for conditional settlement in the matter of James Manolakos v. the City of West Palm Beach for an accident that occurred on November 8, 2020; approved a resolution approving conveyance by the City of West Palm Beach an 8.61-foot wide strip of property associated with 324 Datura Street in exchange for a perpetual easement to the City for public sidewalk, fixtures, utilities and other public improvements.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved a resolution approving a Minor Subdivision and Plat to create the Pink Bird Car Wash at 879 West Executive Center Drive.

ENGINEERING – Approved an ordinance after second public hearing granting access and utility easement to Cellco Partnership (D/B/A Verizon Wireless) across City property lying south of 47th Place North.

FIRE DEPARTMENT – Approved two resolutions accepting a Florida Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment Grant award from the Florida Department of Financial Services and appropriating the funds for the purchase of fire equipment.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved a resolution for a retail lease agreement between Tabac West Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach for the lease or retail space at 505-509 Clematis Street.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution appropriating $25,426 from the State of Florida Department of Health Child Care Food Program to provide snacks during the City’s after-school programs at two community centers.

POLICE DEPARTMENT – Approved two resolutions accepting a grant from the University of North Florida Training and Services Institute, Inc., (Police Technology and Management) to reimburse the City for the cost of public education and enforcement of the bicycle safety and pedestrian safety program, and providing a receipt and appropriating the grant.

PUBLIC WORKS – Approved a resolution approving a license agreement with United Parking Systems for use of a portion of the parking lot at 114 S. Narcissus Avenue for a solid waste compactor.

PUBLIC UTILITIES – Approved two resolutions accepting and appropriating grant money from the Department of Environmental Protection Florida Community-wide Vulnerability Assessment and appropriating the funds in the Water and Sewer Systems Revenue Fund; approved two resolutions accepting a grant from the South Florida Water Management District to fund the Community Water Conservation Program (related to high-efficiently toilets), and appropriating the funds from the Water and Sewage Systems Revenue Fund.
