- Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard arrives in New Delhi to participate in the G20 Ministerial Meeting and meets with counterparts from Türkiye, the United Kingdom and India
Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard today received a message of thanks from the Government of Türkiye to the people and government of Mexico for sending assistance after last month’s earthquake.
Secretary Ebrard also met in New Delhi with Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and offered assistance with the reconstruction work in the towns damaged by the earthquake.
Minister Çavuşoğlu recalled the help provided by the Mexican Army, Navy and Red Cross, and the rescue dogs, particularly Proteo. “I would like to thank the Government and people of Mexico for their solidarity and support, and for sending search and rescue teams of 150 people […] as well as the Mexicans who also sent search and rescue teams. […] We will never forget the support of the Mexican Government and the Mexican people during these difficult times that we are going through in Türkiye after the earthquakes,” he said.
Foreign Secretary Ebrard is in New Delhi for the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the G20, which brings together the world’s largest economies.
Prior to the G20 meeting, the Foreign Secretary met with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, to discuss the joint work done by India and Mexico to promote peace and development. They especially welcomed their joint work on access to vaccines and medicines.
Secretary Ebrard also met with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, James Cleverly, to discuss bilateral trade, energy transition, cooperation and sustainable oceans.
Tomorrow the Foreign Secretary will attend the G20 Ministerial Meeting. Session I is on: Strengthening of Multilateralism; Food and Energy Security; and Development Cooperation; and Session II focuses on Counterterrorism: New and Emerging Threats; Global Skill Mapping and Talent Pool; and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).
He will also have a greeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and will accompany him to the opening of the Raisina Dialogue.
Lastly, Foreign Secretary Ebrard will participate in the MIKTA Ministerial Meeting.
