Marco Island is hosting July 4 festivities, Sanibel isn’t so sure

Marco Island is embracing Independence Day with open arms after a previous year riddled with pandemic precautions and shutdowns.

The community will once again host July 4 fireworks, Councilman Jared Grifoni said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Celebration guidelines from the city have not been released yet.

Another beachside town in Southwest Florida is more hesitant to return to normalcy.

The City of Sanibel is meeting today to decide the future of summer holiday celebrations. Council members are expected to discuss canceling the July 4 parade.

Instead, the city is considering resuming special events after October 1.
