ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An arrest has been made months after the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man outside an Orange County Walgreens, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said 21-year-old Luis Hernandez-Torres was arrested Tuesday.
Deputies responded to the store on Sand Lake Road and Orange Blossom Trail where they found Ivan William Perez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Perez later died at the hospital.
According to an arrest affidavit, the sheriff’s office reviewed surveillance video that showed Perez and a woman walking into the liquor store side of Walgreens where they briefly spoke to three men, including Hernandez-Torres. Two of the men were wearing dark clothing while Hernandez-Torres was wearing a white shirt and red shorts, officials said.
Deputies said the three men left the store and were waiting outside until Perez left the store at midnight, leading to a “verbal altercation” between the men wearing dark clothing and Perez. While the altercation was going on, video shows Perez went into a silver Jeep parked outside the store and exited, according to the sheriff’s office.
After leaving the Jeep, Perez “rushes” toward one of the men in dark clothing before being shot “with a handgun numerous times” by Hernandez-Torres, according to authorities. Deputies said the three men then ran into the nearby Heritage Motel, which is where authorities learned Hernandez-Torres had lived for five to seven months.
Hernandez-Torres faces a charge of first-degree murder.
