Headline news from around the world 25th September Storm Fiona Canada. Natural disasters

The Canadian Hurricane Center warned that Fiona, which is expected to reach the Canadian coast, could become a “historic extreme event”.
Authorities are warning of possible coastal flooding, power outages and dangerous driving conditions.
At least eight people died on Fiona’s journey across the Caribbean.
Canadian forecasters said that Fiona, now a Category 3 storm, had maximum sustained winds of up to 120 mph (195 km/h), although those were expected to ease as it made landfall.
“It will be bad,” said the prime minister
“We urge everyone to stay safe, heed the directions of local authorities and stay there for the next 24 hours.”

Strong hurricanes are rare in Canada because storms lose their energy when they enter colder waters to the north and instead become post-tropical. But pressure in the region is forecast to be historically low due to Hurricane Fiona, making way for a stronger storm.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and New Brunswick, as well as parts of Quebec.
