Donna Crockarell Obituary (2021) – Cape Coral, FL

Donna Jean Crockarell, daughter of Delbert C. Gaul and Linnie A. Beam, was born in Sumner, Meigs County, Ohio, on January 28, 1931 and died in Cape Coral, Fla. on August 28, 2021, age 90.

She graduated with the Class of 1948 at Chester High School and from Ohio University with an Associates of Arts Degree in 1950. She started work the following week in Columbus, Ohio. In 1951 she accepted a job with the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and worked there for ten years.

During this time, she met and married the love of her life, James Brandon Crockarell on April 13, 1952. Number 13 was always her lucky number, she said. They shared 65 loving years of hard work and adventures while raising three children: Denise C. MacConkey (Don), James B. Crockarell (Emely), and Jeffrey E. Crockarell. Also mourning her death are four grandchildren: Meghan M. Massie (Jay), Alexandria L. Meyers (Brent), Jessica (Katie) Anderson (Steven) and Jonathan E. MacConkey and six great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Croc Croc: Madeline, Jack, Katelyn (Izzy), Patrick and Annabel Massie and Fisher Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, J. M. Gaul.

She worked while raising her family. She was secretary at Bush Hill Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, Va., for seven years and a member there for 44 years where she served as Elder, Deacon, President of the Women’s Association and Sunday School Teacher. The family lived in Japan for three years with her husband’s work. When her children went off to college, she went back to the Navy Department and worked until she retired in 1993. At that time she and Jim moved to Virginia Beach, spending six months there and six months in the Florida Keys. In 1999, they moved to Cape Coral, where she was a volunteer at Cape Coral Hospital and was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church until her death.

She was a kind-hearted, helpful, loving woman who had Jesus in her life and lived it daily. She loved all and in return was loved by all. She will forever be in our hearts and always our inspiration.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Pkwy, Cape Coral, Fl 33904 for senior activities.
