Broward County Fair Coming to Margate

In a 4-1 decision by the City’s Community
Redevelopment Agency
Tuesday, elected officials approved the use of vacant
land at the crossroads of Margate Boulevard and State Road 7 for the Broward
County Fair November 18 to December 5. Commissioner Joanne Simone
was in dissent.

Last held in 2019 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, the
Broward County Fair is a South Florida tourist attraction and arguably one of
the largest county fairs in the Sunshine State. Cities hosting the Fair over
the years have experienced a boon to local job creation and tax revenues,
including cities’ share of local option fuel taxes, sales taxes, and county
transportation taxes. Additionally, the Fair generates airport and hotel taxes
used to support schools, housing, and hospitals. Beyond a doubt, the Broward County Fair will have a multiplier effect on local employment and consumer spending.

Notably, Harlan Bast, owner of the Fair, agreed to pay the City of Margate $50,000 to
hold the Fair in the City, along with offering vendor spaces to local

“My client has two other possible locations, but prefers it in Margate,” said counsel for Bast, Joshua Rydell.

The Fair’s media partner, iHeart Media, plans to broadcast live from the
Fair to more than a dozen radio stations across South Florida.
