Today, Foreign Ministry Felipe Solá held a working meeting with the Special Secretary for Strategic Affairs of Brazil, admiral Flávio Viana Rocha, in which they reviewed the issues on the broad bilateral agenda and agreed on the goal of further strengthening diplomatic and trade relations.
During the meeting, they discussed the development of the automotive sector, which is key for both countries as main trade partners, and they noted the importance of continuing to work together to enhance productive integration, develop a competitive industry and achieve sustainable and balanced trade.
Sola thanked Viana Rocha on behalf of our country for Brazil’s historic support for Argentina’s position on the Question of the Malvinas, particularly for Brazil’s support at the United Nations, the OAS, the MERCOSUR, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and other multilateral fora such as the meetings of Ministers of the Group of 77 and China and the Ibero-American summits.
The Minister stated that during the Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR this year, Argentina will promote both the current internal integration agenda and the external negotiations agenda, which includes agreements with the European Union, EFTA, Canada, Israel, and Lebanon. Furthermore, Argentina is also looking forward to negotiations with Central American and Caribbean countries.
Solá also highlighted the virtual meeting held on November 16 last year between Brazilian and Argentine authorities to discuss issues relating to the cooperation in the South Atlantic and Antarctica, during which, in view of the shared interests, the proposal was to start a positive agenda of cooperation and coordination on oceanic issues for the purpose of strengthening the position of both countries in that geographic area.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Pablo Tettamanti; the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Jorge Neme; the Secretary for the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Daniel Filmus; the Chief of the Private Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guillermo Justo Chaves; the Argentine Ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli; and Brazil’s Ambassador to Argentina, Reinaldo José de Almeida Salgado.
