Humanitarian aid flight sent to Lima

Today, the Argentine Foreign Ministry, through the White Helmets Commission, and the Ministry of Defence launched the Argentine humanitarian mission in response to the plea by the Government of Peru, aimed at aiding those affected by floods and landslides in different parts of the country.

This afternoon, the Argentine mission travelled to Lima on an Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft, with the volunteer team assigned to the humanitarian aid and supply mission. The aircraft and its crew will collaborate on an airlift task to link isolated cities and communities in northern Peru.

The humanitarian aid mission is coordinated by the White Helmets and includes six of its volunteer experts in water treatment and disasters. In addition, 40 boxes of water purification tablets were sent to Peru for the treatment of over 8 million litres of water, as well as 1,000 blankets.

The White Helmets also participate in the work being carried out by the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination Team (UNDAC), through an expert official on the subject.

Argentina expressed its solidarity with the People and Government of Peru in the aftermath of the most severe floods that have hit the country in 20 years, triggered by the “coastal El Niño” phenomenon, which has forced 800 cities to declare a state of emergency and has left 70 dead, affecting over 62,000 people.
