500 celebrate Fourth of July in Gulf Coast Runners Firecracker 5k

Carole Nabbie recently took part in a relay stretching 100 miles across the Florida Keys. So, excelling in Saturday’s GCR Firecracker 5K run was by comparison no problem at all.

Finishing first overall in the women’s grand master’s division, Nabbie benefited from experience and a few old friendships during the annual Independence Day race in Naples’ Fleischmann Park in an event that included 472 people.

Nabbie was recently part of the winning women’s relay team in the 100-Mile Ultramarathon in the Florida Keys.

Race leader Nick Kamen of Naples, makes his way though the Gulf Coast Runner's annual Fire Cracker 5k race course, Saturday, July 3, 2021, in Naples' Lake Park neighborhood. Kamen finished first with a time of 15:49.8.

Gulf Coast High graduate Nick Kamen was the overall winner. Katharina Tampermeier was the women’s overall champ.

Nabbie felt the race was worth the preparation, and even losing a few winks the night before the race.
